Speech Pathology Home Visits on the Southern Gold Coast & Northern NSW

Home Visits: Therapy That Comes to You

Some of the most meaningful speech pathology work happens at the kitchen table, on the lounge room floor, or beside the high chair. For babies and young children, the home is where feeding, communication and play actually live — and where support tends to land most effectively.

Home visits are a core part of how we work at Chatter & Chomp. Here's why they matter, when they're the right fit, and how they work in practice.

Why home visits make a difference

Children are relaxed and most themselves in their own space (aren't we all). The familiar surroundings, the usual routines, the favourite chair, all of it makes for a calmer, more accurate picture of what's happening, and what's possible.

For feeding and mealtime work especially, home visits let us see:

  • The real high chair, plate and cup your child uses

  • The actual textures, smells and sounds of family mealtimes

  • The everyday timing, siblings, distractions, time pressures and all

  • The food your child usually eats, in the context they usually eat it

For early communication, the home is where toys, books, bath time, nappy changes and play already happen. Weaving support into those moments, rather than recreating them in a clinic, makes the strategies far more likely to stick.

What home visits can support

Home visits suit almost every kind of paediatric speech pathology work, and are particularly valuable for:

  • Newborns and very young babies

  • Breastfeeding and bottle feeding concerns

  • Starting solids and texture progression

  • Selective eating and mealtime stress

  • Tube feeding and medically complex feeding

  • Early communication for babies and toddlers

  • Children who find new environments overwhelming

  • Families with multiple young children, where logistics matter

What to expect

A home visit is a calm, low-pressure session. There's nothing to set up, clean or prepare beforehand (we bring the skills and knowledge, not the judgement).

Sessions typically include:

  • Observation of your child in their usual routine; a mealtime, a feed, or play

  • Practical, hands-on coaching for you

  • A clear plan you can carry forward

The goal is for you to leave each visit feeling steadier, more confident, and clearer on what to focus on next.

For NDIS clients, travel is charged in line with current NDIS price limits and covers the time and distance required to travel to your home.

How to book

Booking a home visit is the same as any other appointment with Chatter & Chomp. Complete an enquiry form on our website and we'll be in touch within 2–3 business days to arrange a time that suits your family.

If you're not sure whether a home visit is the right fit for your child, that's something we can talk through together, there's no commitment in reaching out.
